The Apple iPad – What Does It Mean For E-Book Readers?

Apple has finally unveiled their much anticipated tablet computer. The name is confirmed as the iPad, which took some pundits by surprise – earlier guesses included iSlate, iTablet etc. – and it’s fair to say that it has had a somewhat mixed reception thus far. There is always a certain amount of polarisation where Apple is concerned and that’s pretty much the case here.

Some reviewers have suggested that it is nothing more than an oversized iPod Touch. Others are considerably more impressed and are already predicting the disappearance of netbooks, notebooks and the Amazon Kindle e-book reader. Of course, the real test will come when the iPad starts shipping in March 2010. It’s almost guaranteed to be another huge success for Apple.

Is the use of CCTV over-rated?

New research has shown that only one crime per year will be solved with the help of computer surveillance. Since the release of this information the public are in uproar over the excessive use of surveillance equipment in and around almost every city.

A local Chief Detective said officers should do more to make use of evidence captured by the cameras which are practically on almost every street corner around the country. Video surveillance and does not go down to well with the public of England and this new statistic really does emphasise the lack of necessity for these tools. Why would we require CCTV if there is clearly no need for them – Where is the logic in computer surveillance? The use of CCTV is quickly being challenged as these statistics have just been released. There is a massive dissapointment in these CCTV devices. In my opinion it is only a matter of time before they have mobile phone tracking hooked up on all of us! Granted, that may be a little over the top but none the less it is natural to believe that we are living in a big brother society.
